Infants
As the parent of an infant, you are looking for a safe, secure "home away from home" environment, where your child can learn, play and grow. SELC offers a nurturing and creative experience for our infants, helping their minds and bodies to develop.
We understand that each infant is special and unique, with its own patterns of play, feeding and sleeping. SELC is committed to making the transition away from home, as easy as possible, for both parent and infant.
On a daily basis, our staff is committed to creating the most nurturing environment possible; through personal care, cognitive and motor skill development, age appropriate playtime and activities. Be assured that our policy of open communication between teachers and parents, keeps you informed about your child's daily progress.
Toddlers
Once your toddler begins walking and talking, he or she wants to see and do everything. Our toddler staff will be there to guide your child through sensory experiences that enhance their cognitive, language, motor and social skills, helping them to build relationships with each other.
At SELC, we work daily with our toddlers to cultivate the following:
- Fostering better communications, by helping our toddlers turn ideas into words and phrases.
- Practice with the value of sharing and cooperating through group play.
- Helping develop friendships and gain confidence, through words and thoughts as they interact with others.
- Creative play focused on developing their unique skills and interests.
Pre-School - 2 year olds
Seeing a child discover something new each day, is the #1 goal for our 2 year olds. At this stage, a child is curious about the world around them; busy exploring their environment and learning to communicate their thoughts. While they begin to exert their independence, they are also gaining a better understanding of group dynamics.
Our teachers are skilled at keeping small hands busy and young minds engaged through games, songs, movement and art, providing an outlet for creative expression. Pre-school 2 activities are designed specifically for this age group, focused on building your child's skills and confidence.
At SELC, we work daily with our Pre-school 2's to cultivate the following:
- Small-group instruction, promoting skill development
- A variety of activities that support learning concepts for this age group
- Encouragement and support that leads to confidence, self-esteem and a love of learning
Pre-school - 3-4
Improved coordination, learning complex games, and beginning to interact more with others defines a preschooler's world. Your preschooler strengthens his or her cognitive skills through plenty of hands-on activities.
Our curriculum is organized addressing complex topics that encourage children to develop their skills and confidence, incorporating language, math, science, creative arts, music, motor skills and social development.
At SELC, we work daily with our Pre-school 3-4's to cultivate the following:
- Theme based units that encourage curiosity, self-direction and confidence
- Portfolios to collect your child's work and capture their unique creative expression
Voluntary Pre Kindergarten
Pre-kindergarten is a critical time for children as they are learning and doing more. Our Voluntary Pre-K program is Gold Seal Approved by our local DCF Child Care Program Office who is responsible for approving accredited agencies for participation in the Gold Seal Quality Care Program. These accredited agencies must meet or exceed the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards, the standards of the National Association of Family Child Care, or the standards of the National Early Childhood Program Accreditation Commission.
Our caring, experienced teachers are dedicated to providing a learning rich, nurturing environment that will prepare your child for kindergarten. We promote independence within an organized atmosphere, allowing our Pre-K's to be their own thinkers. We also emphasize working well within a group through listening, sharing and cooperation.
At SELC, we work daily with our Pre-Ks to cultivate the following:
- Preparation for kindergarten and future success in school
- Whole-group activities to develop social skills
- Development of a stronger vocabulary through letters and words
- Further independent, creative learning through hands-on experiences
- Half-day and Full-day programs are available
